Police reveal how two attacks on their stations were gallantly repelled

Owerri, Imo state: If not for the vigilance of some operatives of the Imo state police command, more stations would have been destroyed by criminals.

According to the police, the operatives repelled attacks on two police stations in the state.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in Imo, Bala Elkana.

He revealed that the affected facilities were located in Umundugba and Omuma areas of the state.

“On 31st May 2021 at about 1530 hours, some hoodlums in their number launched an attack on Police Division Umundugba in Isu Local Government Area, but was repelled by the policemen on duty,” Elkana said.

“They stormed the station in three Sienna buses, one Avalon saloon car, and about eight motorcycles. The hoodlums were engaged in a gun battle.”

“The two police stations were not burnt. There is, however, no security breach or infraction recorded throughout the day in the entire state.”

Killing of Ahmed Gulak

The police in Imo state have said that the killers of Ahmed Gulak, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are members of the secessionist group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its security arm, Eastern Security Network (ESN).

Bala Elkana, the spokesperson for the Imo police command made the claim in a statement via Facebook on Sunday, May 30. He said Gulak’s killers were traced to their location within Imo where they were shot dead during a gun battle with police operatives.

The command stated that the dead assailants were later identified as members of the IPOB/ESN.

Ignore the sit at home order

In another news, the Imo government directed residents of the state to ignore a sit-at-home order declared by the proscribed IPOB scheduled to take place from Saturday, May 29 to Monday, May 31, in the southeast region.

Declan Emelumba, the commissioner for information and strategy, made this known during a press briefing on Thursday, May 27, The Nation reported.

The commissioner urged residents of the state to go about their lawful businesses without fear of molestation.

Arrest the police officer

The African Action Congress (AAC) on Monday, May 31, demanded the immediate arrest of a female police officer as well as the team who fired tear gas at Omoyele Sowore.

This was disclosed in a statement by AAC publicity secretary, Olorunfemi Adeyeye, made available to Legit.ng.

According to Adeyeye, concerned Nigerians including members of the AAC had gathered at the Unity Fountain in Abuja to protest the spate of insecurity that has claimed the lives of over 4500 Nigerians when the shooting took place.
