Southeast governors demand arrest of those responsible for Gulak’s murder

Governors from the southeast region of the country have condemned the murder of Ahmed Gulak, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governors also called on security agencies to immediately arrest those responsible for the killing of the politician.

The Nation reported that the governors made the call in a statement issued by the chairman of the southeast governors’ forum, David Umahi of Ebonyi on Tuesday, June 1, after a virtual meeting on the security situation in the zone.

Umahi said:

“It is with a rude shock that we received the news of the unfortunate death of Alhaji Ahmed Gulak in the hands of the senseless gunmen.”

The Tribune reported that the governors condoled with the Gulak’s family, the Adamawa State government over the killing of the politician.

They assured their counterparts in the northern region of their commitment to unravel the circumstances behind Gulak’s death.

The forum urged the public to exercise restraint and allow security agencies to continue with their investigations.

In another report, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has said that Governor Hope Uzodinma is giving the impression that he knows about the circumstances surrounding the death of Ahmed Gulak by pronouncing the killing as a political assassination.

The Rivers state governor made the statement in an interview with Channels Television on Monday, May 31.

He asked his Imo State counterpart to allow security operatives to conclude their investigation before attributing the murder of the APC chieftain to a political assassination.

Meanwhile, a report by The Cable claims that Ahmed Gulak, the murdered politician, was warned against making the trip to Imo state where he was eventually shot dead.

The newspaper, citing a source, stated that Gulak offered to go to Owerri, the Imo state capital, for the public hearing on constitution review, despite the warning.
