Barely one week after the conduct of its primary to elect candidates for the forthcoming local government election, the Lagos state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has released the names of the winners.
In a statement signed by the state caretaker committee chairman, Tunde Balogun and the secretary, Lanre Ogunyemi, and sent to Legit.ng on Friday, June 4, the names on the list included the chairmen and the vice-chairmen for the 20 local governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) of the state.
According to the report, while Famuyiwa Oladapo David is the party’s candidate for Agbado Oke-odo, Ajoke Moromoke Obe will run as his deputy.
Dipo Olohunrinu, a former political son of the former vice-chairman (southwest) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, emerged as the chairmanship candidate of Amuwo-Odofin local government while Mauren Chika Ashara would deputise him.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the APC reacted to comment made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that its candidates for the Lagos East senatorial and House of Assembly would emerge victorious in the last bye-elections in the state.
It was reported that the spokesman of APC in Lagos state, Seye Oladejo described PDP leaders as jesters and wishful thinkers.
Oladejo said the PDP’s forecast to win the election could only happen in their dream, challenging the party to name the organizers of the purported poll.
He noted that the fact that the background, credentials and integrity of the PDP’s senatorial candidate were subject to public scrutiny would naturally elicit face-saving measures.
The APC chieftain also noted that it remains bad manners for the PDP to award itself marks in a contest that is still days ahead.
Why PDP has not governed Lagos state since 1999
In a related report, a former chairman of the PDP in Lagos state, Segun Adewale, popularly known as Aeroland said that the party leaders always come together to harmonise the list of candidates every four years, adding that the results have been worrisome.
He stated that the only solution to the party’s predicaments in Lagos is to conduct proper primaries and elections as being witnessed in 2015 when it had a number of House of Reps and House of Assembly members.
