– Paul Pogba has thrown his weight behind Chelsea midfielder as number one Ballon d’Or candidate after a stunning season
– The Man United midfielder believes that his international teammate deserves the award more than Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi
– Kante helped Chelsea win the Champions League last season after posting a sseries of brilliant performances
Paul Pogba believes N’Golo Kante should be named winner of the 2021 Ballon d’Or after playing a major part in Chelsea’s Champions League winning campaign, Sport Bible.
The France international posted a series of man-of-the-match performances enroute to the finals where they defeated Premier League rivals Man City.
The ten-year Ballon d’Or monopoly between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi was broken in 2018 by Real Madrid star Luka Modric.
However, Messi bounced back to win the accolade in 2019 beating Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk in the process.
Now that both Barcelona and Juventus did get up to the Champion League semi finals, Pogba has backed his compatriot Kante to scoop the award.
The Man United star told Eurosport France’s FC Team Stream Podcast:
“What I would like to say to the whole world is that the ‘NG’ we have seen in recent months has always been the same.
“We talk a lot about his performances but he has always been as good as ever.
“There was no Cristiano and Messi in the semi-final, so it’s good to see the performances of the midfielders or even the defenders.
“I said a long time ago that it would be appropriate, if Chelsea won, for him to win the Ballon d’Or. It would be deserved, too.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Legendary Premier League manager Arsene Wenger has singled out N’Golo Kante for praise, claiming the Chelsea star is currently Europe’s best all-round midfielder.
Kante has received accolades from all quarters in recent weeks, all thanks to his outstanding end to the season for the Blues.
The midfielder played a central role in Chelsea’s Champions League glory on Saturday, May 29, in Porto, picking the Man of the Match award.
